Smith Middle School – Colonial Garden

If you don’t know about the Colonial Garden at Smith Middle School, this is one of GPIP’s educational projects and we couldn’t do it without member and volunteer support!  Diane Hoover, “Miss Rebekah” of the Historical Society visits the school every year to teach the students about the Three Sisters Garden and the historical value. She will be visiting the students later this month.  We received a message  from Diane Hoover who said “Thanks to you and all the gardeners at the colonial garden this year! We use it and appreciate it so much.”

As additional note, you may or may not know, but due to Grant funding, GPIP was able to update the flagpole garden at the main entryway to the school this year.  Of historical interest, a South Glastonbury millstone was included in the garden which was given by a very generous family.  Don’t worry, this garden will not be added to our summer maintenance projects!  However, if you are in the area, it is worthwhile to check out. It looks wonderful! Both the principal and Parks & Rec were so appreciative of the new look.
